Compliance with RSS-102 Issue 6 Mandatory by December 15, 2024

Starting December 15, 2024, all radio communication apparatus used in proximity to the human body and intended for the Canadian market must comply with RSS-102 Issue 6. This standard, published by the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) in December 2023, sets out the requirements and measurement techniques for evaluating radio frequency (RF) exposure compliance.

Key Changes in RSS-102 Issue 6:

  • New Exemption Limits for Nerve Stimulation (NS).
  • Revised Exemption Limits for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which may require retesting of some products.
  • Updated measurement probe requirements for Nerve Stimulation, meaning some products previously compliant may need reassessment.
  • Integration of other standards, such as RSS-216, into the structure of Issue 6.

Manufacturer Responsibilities:

To remain compliant and ensure products can continue to be sold, distributed, or imported into Canada, manufacturers, importers, and vendors must ensure all relevant equipment meets the requirements of RSS-102 Issue 6 by December 15, 2024.

Failing to comply with these new standards could result in non-compliant products being prohibited from sale or distribution in Canada.
