EU New Battery Law

On June 14, 2023, the European Parliament voted in favor of the “EU Battery and Waste Battery Regulation” (referred to as the “EU New Battery Law”). On July 10, the European Council also approved the regulation. According to this regulation, starting from the relevant time points, all new electric vehicle (EV) batteries, light mobility tool (LMT) batteries, and industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2kWh must have a carbon footprint declaration and label, as well as a digital battery passport, in order to enter the European Union market. The regulation also sets requirements for the recycling rates of key battery materials.
