FCC to Expand Equipment Authorization Rules for Covered-List Components

On July 23, 2026, the FCC released new rules expanding equipment authorization restrictions to certain logic-bearing hardware components produced by entities on the FCC Covered List. The final rule has been adopted but is currently pending publication in the Federal Register. The new requirements will become effective 30 days after Federal Register publication.

Key Changes

  • Manufacturers should screen relevant component suppliers against the FCC Covered List.
  • New equipment may be ineligible for FCC authorization if it contains prohibited covered components.
  • Previously authorized equipment is generally not affected by this new component-level restriction.
  • Certain modifications involving covered entities or components may require a new FCC certification.
