India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a notification on June 10, 2026, exempting eligible in-vehicle communication equipment operating in the 5875–5905 MHz frequency band from individual licensing requirements.
The new rules apply to equipment using the 5.9 GHz band for Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) communications and are now in effect.
C-V2X technology enables vehicles to exchange information with other vehicles, roadside infrastructure, pedestrians and communication networks. It is increasingly used in connected vehicle and intelligent transportation applications, including collision avoidance, traffic management and road-safety systems.

- Applicable frequency range: 5875–5905 MHz.
- The exemption applies to eligible C-V2X vehicle communication equipment, including relevant on-board units.
- Qualifying devices may operate without an individual spectrum license, provided they meet the technical conditions specified by the DoT.
- Manufacturers must ensure compliance with applicable limits for frequency use, transmit power, emissions and other prescribed radio parameters.
- Other Indian approval, certification or equipment authorization requirements may still apply depending on the device and its configuration.
