ANATEL isues new regulation for chargers, effective October 14, 2024

The Brazilian Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) issued the new regulation Ato 5155 after a public consultation. This regulation outlines the technical requirements and testing procedures for the conformity assessment of mobile phone chargers, including DC/DC, AC/DC, and inductive chargers. The new regulation replaces the previous Ato 5159 from 2022 and Ato 3481 from 2019.

Key Points of Ato 5155:

  • Safety and EMC Testing: Defines the safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for DC/DC, AC/DC, and inductive mobile phone chargers. Introduced new requirements for mobile phone chargers, changes to EMC testing for vehicle chargers, and new mechanical tests for wall charger plugs.
  • Implementation Date: Mandatory compliance from October 14, 2024.
