Mexico IFT Issues New Technical Regulations for Wi-Fi 5GHz (IFT-017-2023)

Mexico’s radio frequency regulatory authority, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), has released new technical regulations IFT-017-2023 for Wi-Fi 5GHz.

This new regulation establishes technical specifications and testing procedures for WLAN and/or radio communication devices using digital modulation technology within the following frequency ranges:

The regulation will take effect on November 7, 2025. For the 5725-5850MHz band, the current standards and testing methods for digitally modulated devices (and hybrid devices with digital modulation components) under the existing IFT-008-2015 specification will be replaced by IFT-017-2023 upon taking effect. However, frequency-hopping modulation devices must still comply with IFT-008-2015.

For applications submitted to IFT before the new regulation takes effect, approvals will follow Class B or Class C certification procedures. Certificates issued under IFT-008-2015 before November 7, 2025, will remain valid until their expiration date.
